2017 LGBTIQ Sports Festival
About the Festival
The LGBTIQ Sports Festival run by Team Melbourne will be held on Saturday 4th February 2017. Taking place at Footscray Park and Victoria Univeristy, the Sports Festival is a celebration of LGBTIQ sport and recreation in Melbourne and aims to do three things; to get more of the LGBTIQ community involved in sport, promote the important health benefits to sport participation, and to build a stronger connection across Victoria’s LGBTIQ sporting and recreation groups.
The LGBTIQ Sports Festival is the single largest annual event of its kind in Australia and brings together LGBTIQ sporting and recreation clubs for the ultimate come and try day. Supported and funded by Maribyrnong City Council, the LGBTIQ Sports Festival will provide countless free sessions for individuals and groups interested in sport and recreation within the LGBTIQ community.
Featured activities include AFL 9s, rugby union, volleyball, swimming, rowing and tennis.
This year we will also have a queer family space presented by Proud2Play, adventure activities and also performers to entertain throughout the day.
The LGBTIQ Sports Festival is also being supported by Netball Victoria and Cricket Victoria.
