Adventure Link Summer Slam 2016

Near perfect conditions welcomed competitors form Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne for the Adventure Link Summer Slam hosted by Melbourne Spikers Volleyball club. Oakleigh Sports and Recreation Centre was packed to the rafters as 153 competitors took the court to battle it out for victory, which broke the previous attendance record set in the last tournament in 2015. “It was a fantastic tournament, the stadium was buzzing with excitement” said President Sebastian Delfino and to break the attendance record for the third time in a row as a fantastic result” Delfino continued to say.

Play commenced at 9am, the 24 teams were split into 4 grade levels and played a round robin format to secure a place in the finals played after lunch.   The competition was fierce, and the electric vibe continued into the finals. With some great volleyball played throughout the day the results concluded as follows

The day concluded with food and drinks at Mollie Bar and Grill on Smith St Collingwood as we presented the worthy winners with their medals and trophies.

The Melbourne Spikers Volleyball Club would like to thank our fellow GLBTIQ identified clubs The Adelaide Spikers, Sydney Freezone for coming along and contributing to the success of the day. Melbourne Spikers would also like to thank RMIT, Aces Melbourne and Aces Sydney for continuing to support the tournaments. “It is this support that allows us to continue to grow year on year” said Delfino.
